The Bible says, And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:20-25 KJV)

When God created male and female, he did a wonderful thing!

Recently I had a chance to visit one of the places where Carolyn and I spent time when dating and falling in love in 1977 and ’78.

It brought back some great memories of  being there in Newport Beach, California on our very first date and then many other joyous times.

But even better was getting married on August 4, 1979 at Arrowhead Springs, California and spending the last 36 years together as husband and wife!

Certainly not everyone has had a joyous marriage. If that’s your situation or you just want to improve your married life, here are some articles I’ve written that I hope can help you:

  • Where did God come from?

  • Where do dinosaurs fit in the Bible?

  • Is it OK to be angry with God?

  • And much more

Some might think the question: is interracial marriage biblical irrelevant. Others will think it is very relevant and helpful. My guest on this podcast suffered severe persecution in South Africa for his stance on racial issues and Apartheid.

In this podcast Hendrik and I look at the Bible to answer the question: is interracial marriage biblical?

Hendrik Vorster is a wonderful personal friend and colleague. We have traveled to various locations around the world training church planting leaders.

Here’s some of Hendrik’s story:

Dr. Hendrik Vorster was raised in a Christian family in South Africa. At age 15 he started ministry as a youth leader. At age 20 he became an area pastor, since the church he led had grown from 50 to 400 members. Later he led the Maritzburg Christian Church which grew to over 1,200 adult worshippers each Sunday morning.

Over the years he has spoken to thousands of pastors in many African countries, as well as in Asia, Europe and the USA. In 1999 he joined the Board of Directors of Church Growth International (the Board of David Yonggi Cho) on which he continues to play an active role. He has preached at the World’s Largest Church, Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea.

In 2008 he planted Riverside Community Church in Brisbane, Australia. He launched Cornerstone Ministries International (CMI) in August 2012. CMI now has two Campuses in Australia, one in Vietnam, sixteen in the Philippines, and many more in different nations. They recently registered in South Africa and are in process in a number of other nations in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and India.

Carolyn and I have recently returned from a cruise vacation where the ship staff were wonderful at making you feel welcomed and even “important.”

Many worked hard to remember our names. Without fail, every time we encountered a staff member in the hall, when we walked by, they would greet us kindly with a “Good Morning” or “Hello sir.”

Royal Caribbean cruise line has learned well the truth of this quote, “How you make others feel about themselves says a lot about you.”

In How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie wisely pointed out that the sweetest word to any person is their name.

Make people feel good about themselves, and they will be attracted to you.

But how does this relate to confronting people and telling the truth about unacceptable behaviors and sins? Can we just help people feel good about what they are doing, no matter how wrong it is?

No! We must “speak the truth in love.” (Ephesians 4:15)

A parent who just tries to make their child feel good without giving any discipline, is not a good parent.

So what do we do? We discipline our children lovingly. We show as much tact and kindness as we can while telling people the truth about sinful behavior.

Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” (Colossians 4:15 ESV)

I have tried to be truthful yet tactful in my articles you might want to read:
