Some people are very frightened wondering if they have committed the unpardonable sin. I can relate as I lived for some time with the fear that I was not really saved—that there was something I hadn’t done or had missed out on.

Eventually I came to have peace about my salvation, based on the Word of God. Now I have great assurance that when I die I will go to be with the Lord Jesus, fully forgiven, to live with Him forever.

But perhaps you are still struggling. Perhaps you have committed some terrible sins. Can you be forgiven?

Maybe you know someone who is wondering if they have committed the unpardonable sin.

Others wonder if someone commits suicide, if that is the unpardonable sin. (I addressed this question in a whole podcast on the topic.)

Listen to this podcast for help.

The key passage to help us figure out if we have committed the unpardonable sin is this:

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” (Matthew 12:30-32 ESV)

Another helpful passage I cite in this podcast is this:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18 ESV)
