He Fought Well!

The Bible says: “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12 ESV)

T. Studd is one of the greatest missionaries of the last century. He was the son of a wealthy British family, but gave up all to become a missionary to China, India and finally Africa.

One of the most impressive things about Studd is this (from the Wikipedia article about his life):

Studd emphasised the life of faith, believing that God would provide for a Christian’s needs. His father died while he was in China, and he gave away his inheritance of £29,000, specifying £5,000 to be used for the Moody Bible Institute, £5,000 for George Müller mission work and his orphans, £5,000 for George Holland’s work with England’s poor in Whitechapel, and £5,000 to Commissioner Booth Tucker for the Salvation Army in India.

He wrote a poem, that became well known even to this day. It was on a plaque my family had hanging on the wall of our home

Only one life, twill soon be past.

Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Forgiveness is the antidote

I miss seeing Andy Rooney in the “60 Minutes” on TV.

He nailed this one. This quote from Andy Rooney on bitterness  is brilliant.

The Bible says: But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.” (James 3:14 NIV)

The antidote is to forgive: “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)

Clive Staples Lewis was one of the greatest thinkers ever.

I trust C. S. Lewis on integrity.

One of my all time favorite books is his volume Mere Christianity.

Scripture demands integrity:

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21 ESV)

For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.” (Romans 2:13)

But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” (James 1:22)
