This question comes from Addy who wrote; “Hi Mark, I love reading your posts when I have time and when it’s time to vote I also check out your blog for guidance! I have an unusual question and thought I would check with you first, we are getting ready to cut the cord on cable TV and I wanted to know if you have any suggestions on what other alternative is offered.”

ree

This might seem like an odd question for this podcast, but actually it has a lot to do with Christlikeness when you understand why she was asking.

Addy later explained that her motivations for cutting cable TV were twofold:

There is so much immorality on cable TV.

Cable costs a lot of money.

I commend Addy and all of you who are wanting to avoid the immorality on cable TV these days. Please listen to this podcast for ideas for what to do.

Here are some of the verses that are cited in this podcast:

But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.” (Ephesians 5:3-6 NIV)

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” (Ephesians 4:11 NIV)

Here are alternatives to cable TV that are mentioned in this podcast:

Pureflix and others like it. Disclosure: I am an affiliate with Pureflix. An interesting side note:

When our kids were younger and Carolyn’s sister was still living, we used to drive to Colorado to visit in the summer time. One of our favorite stops along the way was the small town of Beaver, Utah.

There wasn’t much there, however we enjoyed visiting the “squeaky cheese factory.” It was called that because the cheese was so moist that it squeaked when you chewed it.

But Beaver, Utah also has a famous son. He was the inventor of television. Do you know who it was? It was Philo T. Farnsworth

Here is what he said about inventing: “I know that God exists. I know that I have never invented anything. I have been a medium by which these things were given to the culture as fast as the culture could earn them. I give all the credit to God.”—Philo T. Farnsworth

(By the way, little Beaver is also the birthplace of the famous outlaw Butch Cassidy.)

This question on euthanasia comes from listeners in Canada. They tell me there is a huge debate about this subject there. Of course, this issue is being debated and laws are being changed in the USA and elsewhere as well. But what does the Bible say about euthanasia?

ree

Proponents of euthanasia use terms like “death with dignity,” “right to die” and “mercy killing.”

Does God favor these ideas?

Here are some of the verses related to euthanasia that are cited in this podcast:

“I would rather be strangled—     rather die than suffer like this. I hate my life and don’t want to go on living.     Oh, leave me alone for my few remaining days.” (Job 7:15-16 NLT)

And he [Elijah] asked that he might die, saying, ‘It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.’” (1 Kings 19:4b ESV)

Thou shalt not kill.” (Exodus 20:13)

Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” (Deuteronomy 30:19 NLT)

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27 ESV)

“What kind of a God would send people to hell?” “If that’s the kind of God you worship; I want nothing to do with your God.”

ree

Dr. Chris Gnanakan

Statements like these are understandable, unless you understand the true nature of God.

In this podcast, my guest Dr. Chris Gnanakan responds to these kinds of questions.  Chris shares about:

The DEPTH of God’s LOVE.The WIDTH of God’s MERCY.The HEIGHT of God’s JUSTICE.

Here are some of the Scriptures that Chris cites in this podcast:

The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 ESV) Does this verse say that God wants to send people to hell?

In 1 Timothy 2:4 we read that God, “…desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (ESV) Does this verse say that God wants to send people to hell?

Please remember that the wonderful promise of the Bible is this: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 ESV)

To be sure you are ready to meet the Lord Jesus when you die, click HERE

So what kind of God would send people to hell? Please listen to find out.

Who is Dr. Chris Gnanakan?

Dr. Chris Gnanakan is originally from South India, and now lives with his family in Virginia. He is currently a professor at Liberty University’s School of Divinity, serving as a bridge between the mission field and the next generation of Christian leaders. Dr. Chris is also the Director of Outreach to Asia Nationals (OTAN), a mission organization that enables nationals to reach nationals in restricted-access countries with the Gospel. Chris holds three doctoral degrees.
